--- Toxins/Poisons ---

Pupperfish:

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] Pufferfish Textrodotoxin
[b]Type:[/b] Offensive
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Description:[/b] Poison extracted from Pufferfish.
Poisoning symptoms include: deadening of the tongue and lips, dizziness, and vomiting (Post 1). This is followed by numbness and prickling over the body, rapid heart rate, decreased blood pressure, and muscle paralysis (Post 2). Finally the poison stops the person who has ingested it from breathing causing death (Post 3).
[spoiler=wiki]Symptoms typically develop within 30 minutes of ingestion, but may be delayed by up to four hours; however, if the dose is fatal, symptoms are usually present within 17 minutes of ingestion.[29] Paresthesia of the lips and tongue is followed by hypersalivation, sweating, headache, weakness, lethargy, incoordination, tremor, paralysis, cyanosis, aphonia, dysphagia, and seizures. The gastrointestinal symptoms are often severe and include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain; death is usually secondary to respiratory failure.[34] There is increasing respiratory distress, speech is affected, and the victim usually exhibits dyspnea, cyanosis, and hypotension. Paralysis increases, and convulsions, mental impairment, and cardiac arrhythmia may occur. The victim, although completely paralyzed, may be conscious and in some cases completely lucid until shortly before death, which generally occurs within 4 to 6 hours (range ~20 minutes to ~8 hours).[35][/spoiler]
[b]Price:[/b] 1,500 Ryo Per Vial (1 Vial = 4 Doses of Poison)
[b]Current Amount:[/b] Unlimited. Maximum 4 doses per post (Clan Ability)

Sea Snake Venom:

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] Sea Snake Venom
[b]Type:[/b] Offensive
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Descritpion:[/b] This venom is slow acting, and extremely effective for assassinations and use in instances where you don't want your target to know they've been envenomed right away. Slow acting, the venom of the common sea snake can take several minutes (3 posts) to take effect, and once it does, the target is in for a hellish experience. Initially, the target will begin to feel sluggish, with headaches and unquenchable thirst with intermittent vomiting signaling the venom has started ravaging the body. After a relatively short period of time (5 posts post envenomation) the user begins to experience extremely tenderness and pain in the muscles and joints, with stiffness being very common. Spasming of the jaw will begin to occur at this time (6 posts). Once muscle spams begin (8 posts), the muscle tissue of the body begins to breakdown rapidly; leading to extreme pain and causing septicemia, which can lead to everything from cardiac arrest to total organ failure. At this point, death is likely unless medical attention is given. (If the target does not receive medical treatment within 10 posts, or leaves the thread and does not receive treatment immediately upon starting a new thread, they will die.)
[spoiler=Wiki]There is usually little or no swelling, and it is rare for any nearby lymph nodes to be affected. The most important symptoms are rhabdomyolysis (rapid breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue) and paralysis. Early symptoms include headache, a thick-feeling tongue, thirst, sweating, and vomiting. Symptoms that can occur after 30 minutes to several hours after the bite include generalized aching, stiffness, and tenderness of muscles all over the body. Passive stretching of the muscles is also painful, and trismus, which is similar to tetanus, is common. This is followed later on by symptoms typical of other elapid envenomations: a progressive flaccid paralysis, starting with ptosis and paralysis of voluntary muscles. Paralysis of muscles involved in swallowing and respiration can be fatal. After 3–8 h, myoglobin, as a result of muscle breakdown, may start to show up in the blood plasma, which can cause the urine to turn a dark reddish, brown, or black color, and eventually lead to acute renal failure. After 6-12 h, severe hyperkalemia, also the result of muscle breakdown, can lead to cardiac arrest[spoiler]

Stonefish Venom:

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] [i]Synanceia verrucosa[/i] (Stonefish) Toxin
[b]Type:[/b] Offensive
[b]Rank:[/b] A
[b]Descritpion:[/b]Stonefish toxin is fast acting and extremely dangerous. Highly lethal to humans and most other creatures, this toxin causes nearly immediate, horrific pain at the injection site, which can spread to a large area of the effected limb in a fairly short amount of time. The toxin itself is a mix of several different types of toxins which all act on different parts of the body; which is why this toxin is absurdly dangerous; as it has hemotoxic, protientoxic, and cariotoxic effects. In essence, this toxin attacks the blood, tissue, and heart of the target; causing massive damage and almost inevitable overwhelming the body until it shuts down entirely. If medical attention is not received within 5 posts, the target will die from a mix of tissue death, cardiac arrest, and organ failure.
[spoiler=wiki]Effects of the venom include severe pain, shock, paralysis, and tissue death.[5] A large dose can be fatal to humans, generally young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Medical treatment includes the antivenom. A local anesthetic can reduce the pain. First aid includes immersion of the affected limb in hot water; this is thought to help denature the proteins in the venom. The immobilization of venom at penetration site using a tourniquet or firm constrictive bandaging is no longer recommended.[6] Surviving victims may have nerve damage, which can lead to local muscle atrophy.

The venom consists of a mixture of proteins, including the hemolytic stonustoxin, the proteinaceous verrucotoxin, and the cardiotoxic cardioleputin.[/spoiler]

Lesser Weaver:

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] [i] Echiichthys vipera[/i] (Lesser Weaver) Toxin
[b]Type:[/b] Offensive
[b]Rank:[/b] B
[b]Descritpion:[/b] While not normally lethal, the toxin of the Weaver is very painful, and in rare cases can cause serious side effects. In general, the target will notice the effects of the toxin after the 1st post, with the severity of the pain and various other effects reaching the peak of severity on the 6th post. After 10 posts, the toxin itself will have been broken down by the body and rendered innert, however any damage caused by it will last until the end of the thread, or treatment is recieved. In general, the only major effect is extreme pain, with itching and swelling of the injection site common. The severity of the pain is such that it causes nausea and headaches in the victim; and secondary effects such as uncontrolled muscle tremors are fairly common.
[spoiler=wiki]At first, many victims believe they have simply scratched themselves on a sharp stone or shell, although this barely hurts, significant pain begins about 2–3 min after being stung. Weever stings cause severe pain; common descriptions from victims are "extremely painful" and "much worse than a wasp (or bee) sting".

Common and minor symptoms include severe pain, itching, swelling, heat, redness, numbness, tingling, nausea, vomiting, joint aches, headaches, abdominal cramps, lightheadedness, increased urination, and tremors.

Rare and severe symptoms include abnormal heart rhythms, weakness, shortness of breath, seizures, decreased blood pressure, gangrene, tissue degeneration,[5] and unconsciousness.[/spoiler]

Blue Ringed Octopus:

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] Blue Ringed Octopus Toxin
[b]Type:[/b] Offensive
[b]Rank:[/b] SS
[b]Descritpion:[/b] One of the most feared toxins in the world, the Blue Ringed Octopus toxin causes a hellish death, adbet a mercifully quick one. Without extremely aggressive, immediate treatment, the target will die within three posts. Within 1 post the target is completely paralysed, to the point that they are completely unable to move, or even breath. The target is forced to remain entirely immobile while their body, very painfully, shuts down with them entirely conscious for the duration of the venom's effect; until they fall unconscious due to lack of oxygen, or from cardiac arrest.
[spoiler=Wiki]The octopus produces venom containing tetrodotoxin, histamine, tryptamine, octopamine, taurine, acetylcholine, and dopamine. The venom can result in nausea, respiratory arrest, heart failure, severe and sometimes total paralysis, blindness, and can lead to death within minutes if not treated. Death, if it occurs, is usually from suffocation due to paralysis of the diaphragm.

The major neurotoxin component of the blue-ringed octopus is a compound that was originally known as maculotoxin but was later found to be identical to tetrodotoxin,[8] a neurotoxin also found in pufferfish, and in some poison dart frogs.[9] Tetrodotoxin is 1,200 times more toxic than cyanide.[10] Tetrodotoxin blocks sodium channels, causing motor paralysis, and respiratory arrest within minutes of exposure. The tetrodotoxin is produced by bacteria in the salivary glands of the octopus.[11]

A person has to be in contact with the octopus to be envenomated. The octopus's first instinct is to flee. If the threat persists, the octopus will go into a defensive stance, and show its blue rings. Only if cornered, and touched, will a person be in danger of being bitten and envenomated.

Tetrodotoxin causes severe and often total body paralysis. Tetrodotoxin envenomation can result in victims being fully aware of their surroundings but unable to breathe. Because of the paralysis that occurs, they have no way of signaling for help or any way of indicating distress. The victim remains conscious and alert in a manner similar to curare or pancuronium bromide. This effect, however, is temporary and will fade over a period of hours as the tetrodotoxin is metabolized and excreted by the body.

The symptoms vary in severity, with children being the most at risk because of their small body size.[/spoiler]

Irukandji Venom:

Code:
[b]Name:[/b] Irukandji Venom
[b]Type:[/b] Offensive
[b]Rank:[/b] S
[b]Descritpion:[/b] "While rarely fatal, this venom causes excruciating pain that lasts for hours and days after injection. During the initial injection post, the target feels little more than a slight sting, comparable to that of a mosquito; and as such rarely realizes that they have been envenomed. On the second post, the pain begins to build very quickly to levels that can only be described as horrific; enough to cause the target to fall unconscious, if they are lucky. Secondary effects of this toxin are severe headache, backache, muscle pains, chest and abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, sweating, anxiety, hypertension, tachycardia and pulmonary edema. This toxin is long lasting; with effects continuing well into the 15th post after injection. Past this point, the effects will slowly fade, with the 20th post being the point when the pain recedes entirely, and the body has processed the toxin entirely out of it's system. However, this toxin is extremely potent, and as such; if the target leaves the thread in which they are envenomed; they will continue to feel the effects until treated by a medic, or a total of 20 (IC) posts has passed."
[spoiler=wiki]Because the jellyfish is very small, and the venom is only injected through the tips of the nematocysts (the cnidocysts) rather than the entire lengths, the sting may barely be noticed at first. It has been described as feeling like little more than a mosquito bite. The symptoms, however, gradually become apparent and then more and more intense in the following five to 120 minutes (30 minutes on average). Irukandji syndrome includes an array of systemic symptoms, including severe headache, backache, muscle pains, chest and abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, sweating, anxiety, hypertension, tachycardia and pulmonary edema.[4][11][12] One unusual symptom associated with the syndrome is a feeling of "impending doom".[13] Patients have been reported as being so certain they are going to die, they beg their doctors to kill them to get it over with.[14] Symptoms generally abate in four to 30 hours, but may take up to two weeks to resolve completely.[6][/spoiler]
