Specialization and Element Guidelines 200

Specializations and Elements

Specializations

Everyone, regardless of rank, begins with Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu unlocked to D-rank. As you rank up, you gain the ability to learn and train more specialties. It's a super simple system overall. You start with the base three, and are able to train up X number of specialties depending on your rank. This system works as follows:

Genin: 2
Chuunin: 4
Special Jounin: 5
Jounin (A): 6
Jounin (S): 8

What this says is, a Genin starts with Nin/Gen/Tai at D-rank, and can train any 2 specialty they choose. This can be ANY specialty but Senjutsu, as Senjutsu cannot be learned until certain requirements are met, which will be explained later on. You choose which specialties you train, and can train up to the number listed. So you could have your base, given D-rank abilities, and train, say Kenjutsu and Fuuinjutsu as a Chunnin if those are the skills you want to specialize in.

Now, this all being said, there is a limit to how high you can train your specialties, which is determined by how high you've learned all your trained ranks too. Essentially, you get a certain number of 'slots' that max out at a given rank. This is as follows:

SS: 3
S: 3
A: 2

What this means is, the first three specialties you train to maximum will max out at SS-rank. The next three you train max at S-rank. Two after that, A-rank. At this point, you will have trained all possible specialties on the site currently. If at a later time we add new specialties, this listing will be adjusted, and players will have the option of adjusting their specialties as needed.

In the case of Senjutsu, it CANNOT be taken until you have the following conditions met:

Ninjutsu : S
Taijutsu: A
Genjutsu: A

Once you've trained the required specialties to these levels, you unlock the option to take and train Senjutsu, which may be trained up to SS-Rank if you have the room for it.

Elements

Specialization and Element Guidelines 270px-Advanced_Elemental_Relationships_Diagram

Everyone starts with 2 base elements. A base element is any of the basic 5 (Wind, Water, Fire, Earth, Lighting), Yin, or Yang release, or any of the advanced elements that are able to be used at D-rank (Ex: Steel, Light, etc).  Genin (D) are locked to only that singular element, and may only use elemental jutsu of such. The element starts at D-Rank, and can be trained to S-Rank if you wish, however you are limited in jutsu rank usage via the normal Jutsu rules.

Chuunin (C) and Special Jounin (B) are able to unlock a 2nd element slot, which they must then train from D-Rank.

Jounin (A) are able to unlock a 3rd element slot, which they much train from D-Rank.

Jounin (S) are able to unlock the 4th and final element slot, which must be trained from D-Rank.

In special circumstances (Major Events, Plot characters, Legendary mission chain awards, etc), a lower ranked ninja may unlock an extra element slot (Genin -2, Chuunin/S Jounin -3, Jounin A - 4), however the maximum number of element slots is 4.

No matter what rank your character is starting out at you start out with your first specialization learned at S, as well as your first element. Your second specialization and element are learned at C. The rest start off at D rank (if you're taking a ranked slow and therefore get them for free).

Specialties

Here are a list of specialties you may choose from.

Ninjutsu

Ninjutsu refers to any technique that utilities chakra and allows the user to perform actions that a normal person otherwise would be incapable of doing. Unlike genjutsu which causes the opponent to experience illusions, the effects of ninjutsu are actual and physical in most cases. Ninjutsu relies on chakra and, most of the time, hand seals to be effective.

The hands are put in sequential positions that molds and manipulates chakra in the necessary manner to perform a technique. This is not always needed, however, and some techniques become second nature to experienced ninja, after which they can perform them at will. Additionally, many ninjutsu can be classified as an elemental techniques, in those cases where a specific element (wind, water, fire, earth, or lightning) is used.

Included in the specialty of Ninjutsu is Chakra Flow. Chakra flow refers to any technique that increases the potency of a weapon by flowing chakra through it. Usually, elemental chakra is used to flow through bladed weapons in order to either dramatically increase their various pre-existing properties or to gain additional advantageous effects. The user must be touching the tool to initiate chakra flow, but direct contact with the weapon is not necessary to maintain chakra flow. Although, another meaning of chakra flow can instead refer to the flowing of chakra through one's body, such as Kakuzu's Earth Release: Earth Spear and A's Lightning Release Armour, to increase close-quarter combat offence and defense. However, whether through an individual's body or weapon, the exact effects observed are entirely dependent upon the respective nature and amount of the chakra used.

Genjutsu

Genjutsu are techniques that are employed in the same fashion as ninjutsu, requiring chakra and hand seals. However, the primary difference between the two is that the effects of genjutsu are illusory; instead of attacking the victim's body, like taijutsu or ninjutsu, genjutsu techniques manipulate the flow of chakra in the victim's brain, thus causing a disruption in their senses. According to the Second Mizukage, genjutsu fittingly falls under the broad category of Yin Release.

This is often used to create false images or to cause pain from trauma (because the body is led to believe it is in pain); however, there are plenty of other uses depending on the situation.

Taijutsu

Taijutsu is a basic form of techniques that typically does not require chakra, though chakra may be used to enhance its techniques. Taijutsu generally require no hand seals to perform, occasionally making use of certain stances or poses, and are much quicker to use than ninjutsu or genjutsu. Taijutsu is simply put: hand-to-hand combat.

Within the broader category of Taijutsu are the 'advanced' weaponry styles of Bukijutsu. These are broken into Kenjutsu, Kyujutsu, and General Weaponry.

Kyūjutsu, or archery, is the art, practice, or skill of propelling arrows with the use of a bow. A person who participates in archery is typically known as an "archer" or "bowman", and one who is fond of or an expert at archery can be referred to as a "toxophilite". Kyūjutsu is one where the user will utilize a bow and arrow to attack targets from long-range.

Kenjutsu pertains to techniques that entail the use of swords, whether the users be shinobi or samurai. Only shinobi with Kenjutsu as a specialization may wield a sword or katana.

General Weaponry is the specialization in anything other than Swords or Archery. Small weapons such as Kunai, Shuriken, etc are open to all users with the appropriate rank and/or specialization; however you must specialize in in General Weaponry to use the large two-handed weapons such as reaper scythes, or the complex weapons such as rope-darts or three-section staffs. Weapons of B-Rank or above that do not fall under Kenjutsu or Kyujutsu require General Weaponry; unless otherwise stated by staff.

Fuuinjutsu

Fūinjutsu are a type of jutsu that seal objects, living beings, chakra, along with a wide variety of other things within another object.

Puppeteer

The Puppet Technique is a unique ninjutsu fighting style; this technique uses chakra threads to control puppets like marionettes. Any number of chakra threads can be used to control a puppet, but users with more skill can use fewer strings per puppet. This technique has few weaknesses: the Puppet Technique is a long range style, meaning that the puppeteers are weak against close range fighters. Since most puppeteer use his or her hands to manipulate the puppets, if their hands are disabled, then the technique can be neutralized. And because the puppet's movements are based on the mechanisms that were installed inside, interfering with said mechanisms can greatly stall the puppet entirely. Also, while controlling the puppet, the user is wide open if the opponent bypasses the puppet. For this reason, puppeteers avoid hand to hand battle, relying almost exclusively on their puppets instead. Another weakness is that a puppet's movement is dependent on the will of the user, and as such there will be a time lag between the user's commands and the puppet's response.

Kuchiyose

The Summoning Technique is a space-time ninjutsu that allows the summoner to transport animals or items across long distances instantly.

Before an animal summoning can be performed, a prospective summoner must first sign a contract with a given species. The contract comes in the form of a scroll, on which the contractor uses their own blood to sign their name and place their fingerprints and once signed is valid even after the contractors death. After this they need only offer an additional donation of blood on the hand they signed the contract with, mold their chakra with hand seals and then plant the hand they signed the contract with at the location they wish to summon the creature. The amount of chakra used during the summoning determines how powerful the summoned creature can be. In the anime, it was shown that if a user attempts to summon an animal without first signing a contract, the user will be teleported to the home of the animal they have a natural affinity for.

It should be noted that anyone can summon a contracted animal as long as they have the blood from someone who has made a contract, the seal of the summoned creature, along with a source of sufficient chakra that the summon will accept. A creature is capable of determining who is attempting to summon it from the chakra used.

Once summoned, the animal can perform a task or help the user in battle. The summon is not required to help the user, and may be more of a hindrance than an ally. In addition, summons are able to summon their summoner. They may also wear a forehead protector, suggesting a loyalty to only one village.

Summoning is treated as a sub-ability of Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, and/or Genjutsu, and is not required to be learned as a separate specialty.

Medical Ninjutsu

These are the Healing Techniques. Medical Ninjutsu are ninja techniques based on healing oneself, or causing medical injuries to the opponent. There are many different healing techniques, some more drastic and chakra consuming than others. Offensive Medical Ninjutu techniques vary greatly devastating as well. There are techniques to stop an enemy's chakra, and even sever arteries without cutting the skin.

Senjutsu

Senjutsu (仙術; Literally meaning "Sage Techniques") refers to a specialized field of techniques that allows the user to sense and then gather the natural energy (自然エネルギー, shizen enerugī) around a person. Senjutsu practitioners can then learn to draw the energy of nature inside of them blending it with their own chakra (created from spiritual and physical energy within the shinobi), adding a new dimension of power to the sage's chakra, resulting in the creation of "senjutsu chakra" (仙術チャクラ, senjutsu chakra).

This chakra cannot be seen by anyone other than those who have been trained in senjutsu. This new chakra enables the user to enter an empowered state called Sage Mode, which can then drastically increase the strength of all ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu. A person who is able to use senjutsu is called a sage (仙人, sennin).

The user is required to balance his/her physical and spiritual energy with the natural energy he/she gathers from nature. If the user puts too little natural energy into using senjutsu, the technique will not work. While gathering natural energy, the gatherer must remain absolutely still in order to be one with nature. If the practitioner can achieve a perfect balance between the physical and spiritual energies of their own chakra, and the energies of nature, they can produce a new and stronger chakra, called "senjutsu chakra".

Elements

The basic elements you may choose from are as follows:

Lightning Release (雷遁, Raiton; English TV "Lightning Style") is one of the five basic elemental nature transformation techniques that allows the user to generate lightning by increasing the high frequency vibrations of their chakra, allowing for piercing damage and fast movement. The electricity paralyses the target so that they are unable to move and leave them vulnerable to a finishing strike. While uncommon, lightning can be infused into bladed weapons in a way similar to Wind Release through chakra flow for increased piercing power through vibrations, with the added effect of inducing numbness. When the technique is released from their bodies, and thus not requiring physical contact, it does not move as fast as true lightning. Instead, due to the control the user has to exert over it, it moves far slower, which can give opponents time to still react.

Earth Release (土遁, Doton; English TV "Earth Style") is one of the basic elemental nature transformation techniques and allow the user to manipulate the surrounding earth for offensive and defensive purposes or create it; be it dirt, mud, or rock. Earth Release techniques have the ability to change the strength and composition of the earth from being as hard as metal to as soft as clay, as well as manipulating their density, making them heavier or lighter. This includes allowing the user to travel through ground and rock in various ways which can be essential for both transportation and for setting up attacks or creating defenses or for offence. Indeed, this makes earth techniques one of the most versatile of the elemental techniques. Pre-existing earth is not necessary though, for the user can create it with their own chakra

Water Release (水遁, Suiton; English TV "Water Style") is one of the basic elemental nature transformation techniques that allow the user to manipulate pre-existing water, or create their own, by turning their chakra into water. It takes much more ability to create the water outside the body than to manipulate what is already available or expel it from their mouths. One of the most versatile of the five basic chakra natures, Water Release techniques can not only change shape but state as well. Moreover, the water becomes more solid in the process as well.

Wind Release (風遁, Fūton; English TV "Wind Style") is one of the five basic elemental nature transformations. It is performed by making chakra as sharp and thin as possible. Wind Release is mainly short to mid-ranged offensive techniques that combine brute force and keen precision to deal cutting and slashing damage. A rarity among the five chakra natures,[1] wind techniques are usually performed by generating air circulation and can be enhanced through this method as well. Wind-nature chakra can also be channeled into blades to increase their cutting power and overall range.

Fire Release (火遁, Katon; English TV "Fire Style") is one of the basic elemental nature transformations. It is performed by molding super heated chakra inside the stomach before releasing it via the lungs and mouth. There are also variants to this in the form of some mediums such as the use of gun powder, explosive tags and chakra flow into a weapon. Commonly affiliated with the Tiger hand seal, Fire Release consists of mid to long-ranged offensive techniques that cause combustive and explosive damage.

Yin Release (陰遁, Inton, Viz: Dark Style" or "Shadow Style) techniques, based on the spiritual energy that governs imagination, can be used to create form out of nothingness.

Yang Release (陽遁, Yōton, Viz: Light Style) techniques, based on the physical energy that governs vitality, can be used to breathe life into form.

Advanced Elements are any element that is formed by combining one or more of the basic elements together. Users are able to learn and train each and any of the basic elements, and once they have reached the stated requirements, can unlock and train one of the available advanced elements if they so choose. However, certain elements that are classified as advanced do not require a basic element, instead they take the place of your primary element. An example of such is that of Light Release (Kōton - 光遁), which cannot be taken unless you forgo any other elements until you reach the rank of Jounin and train to unlock it.

The current library of advanced elements, as well as their individual unlock and training requirements, can be found at The Element Library

Specialization and Element Guidelines Tumblr_mw2txdPToq1spz1ubo1_500

Training Specialties

Training specialties is super simple. So long as you have the slot to train a specialty, you use the following system:

D-Rank: 2,000 words + 1000 Ryo with teacher OR 3,000 words + 2000 ryo without one
D-C 2,000 words
C-B 3,000 words
B-A 4,000 words
A-S 6,500 words
S-SS 8,000 words

This is for ALL Specialties. The only time you need to pay ryo is in the case of taking on a new specialty that you didn't know before, otherwise you start at the D-C rank level and go from there.

Training Elements

Training your Primary Element is fairly easy. Being your Primary makes it easier for you to learn, as your body and mind are not weighed down by extra or conflicting knowledge, muscle, and/or chakra memories.

The requirements for Training your Primary Element are:

D-C 1000 words
C-B 1,500 words
B-A 2,000 words
A-S 4,500 words
S-SS 6,000 words

The rules for training secondary and third elements are simple enough. In order to learn a third, you have two choices; either find a teacher to teach you, or pay ryo to unlock it.

The requirements for Training your Secondary Element are:

D-Rank: 2,000 words + 1000 Ryo with teacher OR 3,000 words + 2000 ryo without one
D-C 2,000 words
C-B 3,000 words
B-A 4,000 words
A-S 6,500 words
S-SS 8,000 words

The requirements for Third Elements are as follows:

Special Jounin (B) Rank or Higher

D-Rank: 2,500 Words + 2000 ryo WITH a teacher OR 4,000 + 3500 ryo words WITHOUT one
D-C 4,000 words
C-B 5,500 words
B-A 6,000 words
A-S 9,000 words

Fourth elements take a lot more training then thirds or seconds. You must be at least Jounin (A) or higher to learn a fourth element. Just like you cannot train your third element to be higher than your second, you cannot train your fourth higher than your third.

The training count and costs for fourth elements are as follows:

D-Rank: 7,000 words
D-C Rank: 8,000 words
C-B Rank: 10,000 words
B-A Rank: 12,000 words
A-S Rank: 15,000 words
