Karukaya's right arm is entirely wrapped by specially made bandages that are covered in a very specific fuuinjutsu seal. This seal is powerful enough to contain the power of the Nova chakra that has replaced his original, biological arm. The seal requires a constant source of chakra to remain active; causing Karukaya to loose access to 200 chakra at all times.

[b]Description:[/b] This is a special seal that was created to contain the power and destructive nature of the nova chakra arm that has replaced Karukaya's original biological arm. Without this seal, the nova chakra would begin to degrade and destroy the rest of Karukaya's body. This seal is extremely powerful, and requires a constant input of chakra to remain active and effective. Because of this, Karukaya looses access to 200 chakra at all times, and cannot recover it unless the seal is completely removed and destroyed. The nature of the seal allows the Nova chakra to be access and harnessed normally.[/spoiler]

These gloves are made from a special leather that is extraordinarily fire resistant, yet able to hold a flame for longer periods of time with very little needed as an ignition source. During the tanning process, chakra is fed into the hide to condition it so that it is able to conduct the user's chakra without being damaged. Because this particular set of gloves is made to be used in conjunction with Fire chakra, it was conditioned using fire chakra; which is why it's able to be both fire retardant and a fire enhancer at the same time.
